The "Re-Imagine" mosaic mural was a project for the Roundhouse Foundation creating the cornerstone art piece at the headquarters of the Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture in Sisters, Oregon. I was the lead artist and facilitator for the creation of this twenty-four foot group mosaic mural project along with my co-collaborator, Lynn Adamo.
My experience as a professional mosaic artist working in private and public art installations, group mosaic projects, and as the the owner of Wild Rose Artworks mosaic studio in Bend, Oregon, has led me to this new adventure. My vision for this project was to create a beautiful mural for the headquarters that captures the heart and soul of the Pine Meadow Ranch and the mountain beauty that surrounds this Central Oregon gem, as well as give the opportunity to other emerging mosaic mural artists to be a part of this fun legacy mosaic project. My hope is this project helps illuminate the contributions that the Roundhouse Foundation has made to Central Oregon creative communities.
The Evolution - In December 2018, Kathy Deggendorfer (Roundhouse Foundation) and I conceived of the idea to create a group mosaic mural project using surplus tile from her friend at Kibak Tile in Sisters, OR. By Spring 2019, Lynn and I had looked over the massive amount of unique tile we had to work with and came up with the inspiration for the design - the architecture of the round barn and other elements of the ranch. By June we had a color design completed. I spent the summer and fall of 2019 prepping and painting the wall, and installing the frame hanging system on the wall. By September, I had all seven frames made and the substrates for the middle three panels ready to go, so Lynn and I started fabrication of the middle three panels. By April 2020, we had finished the center three panels and hung them on the wall. COVID was closing down everything; therefore, the mural was put on HOLD. Finally, In August 2021, we created the inaugural mosaic artist residency through the Roundhouse Foundation program. We put a call out to experienced mosaic artists from around the US and beyond to help us fabricate the last four panels of the mural. In January 2022, three artists were announced for the residency- Kellie G. Hoyt (Minneapolis, MN) Brenda Gratton (Madison, WI) and Line Bergene (Sandefjord, Norway). In June 2022, Lynn Adamo and I moved out to the Pine Meadow Ranch for the 2-week residency and facilitated the completion of the Pine Meadow Ranch mural with the three selected mosaic artists from the Roundhouse Foundation's Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts and Agriculture - Artist Residency Program (roundhousefoundation.org). The residency was a blast and we completed the mural during the 2 weeks. On June 24, 2022 after 3 long years, the project that Kathy and I had conceived had come to fruition. Welcome to our beautiful mosaic mural titled, "Re-Imagine".
